BLOOMIN’ GOOD GODMANCHESTER
31 January 2008

GODMANCHESTER residents are being invited to join the big name towns through East Anglia this year on the start of a project leading up to the 800th anniversary of our historic town in 2012.

Godmanchester Town Council, the Godmanchester Community Association, Huntingdonshire District Council, Luminus Group, Muir Group, the Town Church, youth organisation and both its primary schools are getting together to ensure Godmanchester is blooming colour throughout the summer.

It’s not just about flower power but shrubs and set pieces are planned.

The idea by resident John Thackray who discussed the idea with local Town Councillors were enthused by the idea. The Community Association agreed to act as bankers to get the scheme off the ground.

Having got all the partners together the Town Council has offered use of the Queen Elizabeth school hall so that the residents of Godmanchester can have their say.

A public meeting was arranged for 31st January at 7.30 p.m. QE School

The people of Godmanchester are being asked what areas of Godmanchester they want to see improved.

Godmanchester in Bloom will compete in the Anglia in Bloom competition late in 2008.

All the partners are in the process of working out how they can set aside budgets over the next few years to increase the coverage of Godmanchester in Bloom on an annual basis.

A very successful meeting was held and the level of interest indicates that we shuold be able to make a good start in this initiative for 2008
