Bird Woman's in Town.......
Susan Campbell
Max Cashback
I moved to this town, and that was that.
Just me and my chattels and two Siamese cats.
We quickly settled in this jewel of a place,
So tranquil, away from the burly rat race.
(Well so I thought)
Then one Wednesday evening, tired as a lamb
Intending to sleep till my early alarm,
I noticed the quiet was a trifle too much,
No kitties demanding food and such.
Into the dining room, there were my cats
Mesmerised on the hearth then... I heard a tap, tap, tap.
My cats were ecstatic, eyes lit up with glee
Thinking "Mummy has brought a bird home for me".
And sure enough behind the stove's door
Was a bird, I was frantic, just sat on the floor
Thinking, Susie be calm and think what to do.
Call the RSPCA, they will help you.
I did and they said, "Now listen to me,
Just do as I say and the bird will be free".
That sounded to me slightly wacky, right?
They meant me, not them, and I was in fright!!!

"Open the window and dim the light,
We promise the bird will quickly take flight".
So I locked up the cats and secured the door,
They were screaming and frantic as if to say "more".
And now there was only one thing left to do,
By me, such a coward I can assure you.
I poured some Dutch courage, a large G&T,
Did not want to do it, Oh Lord help me.
It took all of my courage to open the door
Simultaneously, commando style I hit the floor,
Eyes shut tight, arms over my head,
As the bird took its bearings and quickly fled.
I took pen to paper, wrote this ditty down
So you would know Bird Woman's in town.
If you have the same problem, I wanted to say
Don't call me, I will not be home on that day.
