A Bit About GBCs Youth WorkRNA Rock Solid RNA is a Friday night youth group run at the church centre from 7.30-9.30, aimed at those in school years 7-10 (age 11-15). The meetings usually contain a lot of high-energy games and activities. Each evening has a theme, and we usually have discussions in small groups and a talk related to that theme. Some of the recent themes we have covered are Success, Lying, Gossip and Addictions. Every meeting finishes with the Tuck Shop opening, which is a great opportunity to sit down and chat with friends. dna DNA is the name given to our older youth activities, held on a Sunday evening at the Church centre from 6.30-8.30, for those in school year 10 to age 20. Meetings are held in a small group format, and are much more bible focused. Currently we meet in three small groups, led by the older group members. The meetings consist of discussion and bible study, followed by all three groups meeting together round someones house to chill-out and chat (8.45-9.45). Socials Each term both DNA and RNA hold two or three socials, sometimes together, which range from a take-away and chat at someones house, to car treasure hunts or even a bonfire, as was held last year.
The Gap is the name given to a bi-monthly youth service held jointly by local churches aimed at 11-20 year olds. Around 150-200 young people come to each one of these services, which are quite different from the norm. The mid-service refreshments come in the form of doughnuts and fizzy drinks, whilst the music is very Soul Survivor style, and the words are projected with a video accompaniment. A team made mostly of youth workers and some older youth co-ordinate these events, and young people also write, edit and publish the GapMag and GapSite, a magazine and website for the Gap. (www.gapsite.co.uk)
En-Mass is a youth service for young people attending the church, held at the beginning and end of each term, running parallel to the main morning service. It consists of youth-friendly worship, muffins and drinks, interactive prayer and a message.
