Mapping Ponds in Cambridgeshire
Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Biological Records Centre are co-ordinating a pond survey with the aim to map all of the ponds in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough - including as many garden ponds as possible - to gain some general information about ponds and the species present. The Town Council have been sent some survey postcards which will be available in the Town Hall lobby or alternatively their website address is www.naturenotebook.org.uk
Godmanchester
Located
on the A14 about 19 miles (30km) north west of Cambridge on the River
Great Ouse, Godmanchester is a great place for tourists to visit or
stop on your journey; to get a meal and take a relaxing stroll along
the river or around Portholme, England's largest meadow.
It
is also accessible from London via the A1 or by rail from Kings Cross
(60 minutes to Huntingdon which is about 2miles from the centre of GMC).
Godmanchester
is a town not a village as it was Chartered in 1212 and again in 1604, but with a
population of about 5000, it has a true "community". More information...

A14 Upgrade
The contract for the scheme was awarded to Costain Skanska Joint Venture on 28 January 2008. More...
Please note that in the results of the A14 consultation, consideration is being given to provide a limited access junction to the A1198 at Wood Green, which will be of direct benefit to the animal shelter and mean that Godmanchester residents travelling west A14, north & south on A1, do not need to travel via Huntingdon and Brampton to access the new route.
Such a junction means we will not be adding vehicle traffic in Huntingdon or Brampton, which is totally avoidable at very low cost at time of build, and alleviates pressure on our neighbours right in the heart of their communities.
As this is under review, residents should be proactive in supporting such a link which will also ensure that Cardinal Way Business Park can remain viable, safe guarding jobs at the distribution companies and other businesses which are sited there due to our excellent location for transport in the region.
Please do contact the Highways Agency to support this junction.
