Chairman's Comments 2004

It is perhaps worth reminding everyone of the key objective of the Association; it is simply to encourage and facilitate activities in the town for the enjoyment of our neighbours. You can join with us to augment the annual events with your own ideas!

I was pleased to be asked to remain as Chairman once again this year, and my objective in 2004 is to ensure we have a clear structure of activities and responsibilities so that new Members can more easily identify areas where they can contribute. That is not to be seen as becoming too formal, far from it, the meetings are convivial and open to all contributions. I have been very pleased with the support and encouragement offered by the Members, and welcome you to join with us to facilitate events.

Perhaps you would like to help organise events appropriate to the young people in the 12-17 age groups for example, surely a focus for us all in Godmanchester? With additional support from the residents, we can assist in arranging such activities, you need simply come along to any meeting.

Despite increasing costs of insurance etc, I am pleased to report that the GMCCA is in good financial health thanks to the support from the people of the town and local businesses allowing us to fund the Gala Events (the sponsorship of Campbells Estate Agents and Twigden Homes is gratefully acknowledged) and the annual fireworks, and to produce this magazine for all 3300 homes. This funding allows us to underwrite our events, and focus on the activities themselves. Thanks to Alan Hooker for his continued role as Treasurer and steadfastly remaining the kingpin of Gala Arena arrangements and the fireworks.

I hope you and your family enjoy the magazine and our events this year; I look forward to seeing you there. Please do not hesitate to contact me to discuss the Community Association and our activities, or any ideas / contributions you or your group can offer.

My thanks to every Member for their contributions over the past year.
