Last Night of the Proms in Godmanchester
Last Night of the Proms - 2005

Godmanchester’s “Last Night of the Proms” was a resounding success, especially after a disappointing initial response to Ticket Sales. In the end nearly Ninety people attended and enjoyed a lively evening of entertainment provided by the Foss Dyke Brass Band. With the audience nthusiastically singing along to “Jerusalem”, “Land of Hope and Glory” and “You’ll Never Walk Alone”.

The Godmanchester Community School made a very special effort to decorate the Hall, with its children painting Union Jacks. This added to the whole flavour of the evening and created the atmosphere. The real winners were the 4 organisations that benefited from a 25% share each of the £890 raised. The event, the first of its kind in Godmanchester was organised by Stephen Spencer of Sears Publishing. As a former Deputy
Mayor of the Town, he had attended a similar event and since then had always wanted to sponsor the event by adding it to the Town’s already
successful Picnic in the Park. However this event already had a full programme so it warranted establishing as a New Event. All the money from the Ticket sales is to be donated to Godmanchester Rovers Football Club, Godmanchester Community School, Godmanchester Community Association and The National Kidney Research Fund.

Stella Bozant presented a Cheque to Keith Gabb at a recent Sportsman’s Evening held at the Comrades Club, where Nobby Stiles MBE, former Manchester United and England Football player and winner of the 1966 World Cup Medal, was guest speaker. Keith Gabb, Chairman of Godmanchester Rovers was extremely grateful for the fund raising efforts of Sears Publishing and said “without the support of local business, the Club could not compete at the level it has reached”

Sears Publishing hopes to arrange this event again next year. If you are interested please call 01480 455123 and ask for Mark Thornton. Alternatively, email him at sales@searsweb.com - Mark Thornton
